Welcome to Heritage!
I'm Kelsi Rea, the Founder and Director of HCA, and I'm honored that you've taken the time to look around our site!
As a homeschooling mom of 4, I know how desperately I've longed for a community of like-minded Christian families who are fully engaged and dedicated to providing a Charlotte Mason Education to their children.
From the very beginning, my husband and I knew that we wanted to homeschool our children and as much as we also longed to have them engage academically with other kids (not just the ones they share a room with!) we weren't willing to trade off the benefits of homeschooling for sending them to a traditional classroom for five days each week.
So after 9 years of homeschooling and with much prayer, my husband and I knew that the Lord was laying it on our hearts to build a Charlotte Mason-based community in our area from the ground floor, and thus we opened the doors to Heritage Christian Academy in 2019.
We hope that within Heritage, you will find an extenuation of the homeschool atmosphere. Our greatest desire is to support each family's homeschooling efforts, to ensure that you are still the primary educator of your children, and to cultivate the unique learning abilities of each child.
Our academic subjects are presented in the morning, using only living books and various forms of narration, and our afternoons are spent outside, drawing, or working on handicrafts, building a rhythm of peace and exploration into our days.
In addition to the school, I am the Founder and Director of Heritage Children's Library (hosted within HCA and open to the public) and I currently facilitate the South Bend Charlotte Mason Group, as well as a CM Reading Group in the Michiana area, both of which are open to the public and available to any family, whether they are home educating or not.
My goal is to train and equip parents in their homeschooling journey so that they have a community to draw from and a unique educational experience to offer their children; one that allows for the beauty of homeschooling, all while providing a Christian classroom setting and peer to peer interaction within the scope of the Mason philosophy.
I'd love to talk with you and answer any questions you may have!
Blessings on your homeschooling journey!
